Chickenpox
Chickenpox is a disease caused by varicella-zoster virus. It can cause an itchy, spotty rash that can occur anywhere on the body. Chickenpox happens in 3 stages, with new spots appearing while others are becoming blisters or forming a scab.
Stage 1
The formation of small spots. These can be red, pink, darker or the same colour as surrounding skin and can be present anywhere in the body, including the inside of the mouth.
Stage 2
The spots fill with fluid and become blisters, which are very itchy and may burst.
Stage 3
The spots will form a scab which can be flaky or may leak.
Before or after the formation of a rash, you may also experience a fever, aches and pains and loss of appetite.
Chickenpox is highly contagious and can be caught even if you are in the same room as someone with it. It can also be spread by touching things.
