Shingles Vaccine
Shingles is a viral infection that causes a painful rash. The rash appears as blotches, on 1 side of your body only.
Vaccines can help lower the risk of shingles and lessen the chance of complications. One of the most common complications is the pain that exists long after the blisters have cleared.

Shingles
Shingles is caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox; varicella-zoster virus. After you have had chickenpox, this virus stays in your body for life. Years later, the virus may reactivate as shingles if the immune system is lowered.
A tingling or painful sensation in the skin, coupled with a headache and the feeling of being unwell are usually the first signs of shingles.
A rash will then appear a few days later and will appear as blotches on your skin. These will then become itchy blisters that ooze fluid. A few days later, the blisters dry out and scab.
The rash can form a cluster that will only appear on 1 side of the body and can take up to 4 weeks for the rash to heal. However, the skin can remain painful for many weeks after the rash has gone.
If you would like to reduce the risk of getting shingles and lessen the chance of complications, book an appointment with our clinical pharmacist for the shingles vaccine.
