NHS ABPM check
Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring (ABPM) is when your blood pressure is measured over a 24- hour period, whether you’re awake or asleep. You would be required to wear a cuff on your arm and a small device that is attached to a strap or belt. It will occur outside of a clinical setting, as you go about your daily life
One of our trained team members will be able to take your blood pressure reading and advise you if you require an ABPM device or if you need to be referred.
Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring is offered when the clinic blood pressure readings is 140/90mmHg or higher but less than 180/120mmHg.
ABPM indicates a normal blood pressure
– where ABPM shows an average blood pressure of lower than 135/85mmHg and higher than 90/60mmHg.
ABPM indicates stage 1 hypertension
– where ABPM shows an average blood pressure of 135/85mmHg or higher but lower than 150/95mmHg.
ABPM indicates stage 2 hypertension
– Where ABPM shows average blood pressure of 150/95mmHg or higher but lower than 170/115mmHg.
The pharmacist or pharmacy technician will fit the ABPM device if you meet the criteria. Alternatively please speak to one of friendly staff for more information.
